How Thanksgiving Can Be the Key to Your Breakthrough
Thanksgiving—the act of really giving thanks to God, not just eating turkey—may be the key to the breakthrough you’ve been looking for. Why is thanksgiving so important? It’s your ticket into the presence of God. The Bible tells us in Psalm 100:4 that we are to “enter his gates with thanksgiving.”
The New Testament tells us in Philippians 4 that instead of worrying, we are to present our requests to God “with thanksgiving.” Thanksgiving gets us into God’s presence, and it gets our requests heard by God. That sounds like a fantastic reason to thank God!
Unfortunately, a lot of believers remain intimidated about approaching God when we need a breakthrough in various areas of life: family, financial, emotional, spiritual, physical. We lack boldness because maybe we don’t feel thankful enough, considering some of what we’re going through. Or maybe we don’t feel spiritual enough. But I want to encourage you not to be intimidated. Be bold!
Hebrews 10:19 (NLT) says, “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.” The fact that Jesus has made a way for us to come before God is cause for thanksgiving in itself, and it should make us ultra confident!
When I was a seminary student, I was in a class taught by my pastor, Billy Joe Daugherty of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa. Our class was taking a break, and while we were standing in the hallway, Lisa came by and stopped to talk with me. Pastor Billy Joe saw us talking, and we told him that we were engaged to be married. He looked at me, looked at Lisa, looked back at me, and asked with amazement, “How did you get her!?” I’ll tell you how I got her: I was bold about pursuing her! Thankfully, Lisa gave me a little encouragement along the way, but I can assure you I didn’t get the desire of my heart by being timid.
God has a breakthrough for you, too. I know it without a shadow of doubt. Be bold. Be confident. Be thankful. Enjoy Thanksgiving this week and be bold about pressing in to the presence of God. I would also ask you to please send me your prayer request concerning any area where you need that breakthrough. It will be my honor to pray for you. Also, you are invited to comment on anything that gives you boldness in God’s presence–or any struggles you have to be bold before God.
Three takeaways:
1. Thanksgiving is the way we enter God’s presence (Psalm 100:4)
2. We present our requests to God with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6)
3. You can be bold about this because of the sacrifice of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19)
